About the seminars
Retirement Seminar Series
This is a series of three separate seminars designed for faculty and staff 10 years or less from retirement. However, all faculty and staff are welcome to attend. You are encouraged to register for the entire series. Generally, this series is offered several times throughout the year onsite in Columbia and via Telepresence at the Kansas City, Rolla and St. Louis campuses. Employees who are known to be within 10 years of retirement are sent email invitations. If you don't see a set of dates listed at the top of this page, then you may contact retirement@umsystem.edu to inquire when the next series is scheduled.*
- Planning for and Preserving your Retirement Savings
Learn about techniques to better plan for your financial future. We will discuss reaching your financial goals, why you should save early and often, investment choices, and holding steady in a stormy market. - Navigating Social Security and Medicare
This session explains how to maximize your Social Security benefit, when and how to claim Social Security, how to make more informed decisions about Medicare, and tips to help reduce health care costs in retirement. - The University's Retirement Plans
An overview of the retirement plans offered by the University. In addition, if your core retirement plan is either the DB Plan or Hybrid Plan, this seminar will help you review your personal estimate of your pension benefits, if you elect to calculate one through the online Pension Benefits Portal. (This is the same session that is sometimes offered as a stand-alone session.)
* This series is not recorded; however, it is offered multiple times throughout the year. Review the retirement planning checklist for additional resources. For a selection of on demand session available through Fidelity’s portal, visit Fidelity's Webcast Hub (exit UM System site). Or schedule a free consultation with a Fidelity retirement planning specialist.
About online seminars and webinars
Telepresence
Telepresence events are not like other webinars that you can join from your computer. Telepresence events require attendance at conference rooms specified by campus.
Zoom
Zoom mobile videoconferencing enables you to attend a live seminar from your computer or mobile device (free app download required to attend on your mobile device). Zoom is supported on all major computer operating systems and both iOS and Android.
Zoom videoconferencing software is available to all University faculty, staff and students at no cost. If you are a University employee who has not registered for your free account with Zoom, you can complete your account registration by visiting umsystem.zoom.us and logging in with your University email and password. Zoom sessions presented by the University of Missouri or other vendors are not recorded.
Tutorials for joining a meeting and using Zoom (exit UM System site) are available on the Zoom website. Participants who would like to remain anonymous to other seminar participants have the option to keep video off and change their displayed name; consult Zoom's Joining a Zoom meeting anonymously for more information.
