MEDIA ADVISORY (LOCATION CHANGE): University of Missouri to host celebration of precision health initiative, groundbreaking of new building at Mizzou

Due to impending weather, the event will be held in Stotler Lounge located in Memorial Union North

WHAT: The University of Missouri System and its four research universities are celebrating the official launch of the statewide precision health initiative with a groundbreaking of its anchoring research facility. The precision health initiative will support collaboration among scientists, clinicians and entrepreneurs across the UM system.

The approximately 265,000-square-foot facility at the University of Missouri-Columbia will provide space for 60 principal investigators, about half of whom will be newly recruited in areas such as engineering, medicine, veterinary medicine, animal sciences, and arts and science. The precision health building will accelerate the rate at which new therapies and technologies reach the marketplace and benefit patient health.

WHO:  Everyone is invited to attend the groundbreaking. Those in attendance will include the UM Board of Curators, university leaders, state and federal dignitaries, and honored guests. Speakers include:  

  • Mun Choi,UM System President
  • UM System Chancellors
  • Mark McIntosh, vice president of research and economic development and vice chancellor of research and economic development
  • Elizabeth Loboa, vice chancellor for strategic partnerships and dean of engineering
  • U.S. Senator Roy Blunt
  • Missouri Senator Caleb Rowden
