An example of how research at the University of Missouri is translating into successful businesses: a startup company was recently purchased for the rights to technology originally developed at the University of Missouri – Kansas City.
An eye scan could be all you need to log into your accounts in the near future. UMKC Associate Professor Reza Derakhshani and colleagues developed a biometric technology that uses features in the eye for security verification. A startup company called EyeVerify was created to market the discovery, which was acquired by Ant Financial Services Group in September.
The university will receive a portion of the proceeds through its license with EyeVerify, and the research partnerships will continue into the future.
