
Prior to his appointment as Executive Vice President, Dr. Gordon H. Lamb served as interim president of the University of Missouri four-campus system from April 2007 to February 2008. He has a long history of administrative experience in higher education, including at the University of Missouri.
Before joining the University of Missouri, Dr. Lamb was senior vice president for EFL and Associates, an executive search firm in Kansas City, Mo.
Dr. Lamb served as interim chancellor for the University of Missouri-Kansas City from February 1999 to March 2000. He was interim chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside from July 1997 to March 1998. Prior to these appointments, he served as president of Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, where he initiated a strategic planning process, established a foundation board to raise funds for the university and developed the Coalition of Universities and Business for Education to foster university/business partnerships. Dr. Lamb was named president emeritus in 1995.
Before joining Northeastern Illinois University, Dr. Lamb served as vice president for academic affairs at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he was responsible for academic planning and coordinating more than 12 new programs at the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels. He also initiated and developed the Honors Program for Young Scholars.
Dr. Lamb also served as professor of music and director of the division of music at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He was an assistant professor of music at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, as well as a distinguished service professor of music at Western Illinois University. He taught in the Iowa public school system from 1958 to 1968 and served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1958.
Dr. Lamb received a bachelor’s degree in music education from Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa; a master’s degree in music from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; and a doctorate from the University of Iowa.
He is the author of numerous books, articles and musical compositions. Dr. Lamb also is the recipient of several awards, including the National Award for Teacher Education’s Most Supportive President or Chancellor from the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. He has served as chair of the Chicago Council on Postsecondary Education and on the board of directors of Leadership of Greater Chicago.
Dr. Lamb resides in Columbia, Mo., with his wife, Nancy. They have three grown children.
