Annual health fairs slated for October

Healthy for Life will be holding its annual wellness fairs this month. UM Health Care employees should make plans to attend the fair at University Hospital on Oct. 23 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the main lobby of University Hospital. MU and System faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the Oct. 30 fair at Reynolds Alumni Center from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. At both fairs, faculty and staff can receive health information and screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, skin cancer, blood glucose and more.

Hospital employees will receive free flu shots on Oct. 23 courtesy of Staff Health. MU and System employees can receive the vaccination at the campus fair courtesy of UM Faculty & Staff Benefits. UM Choice Health Care members who bring their Coventry card can receive a free flu shot. Employees not enrolled in Coventry can receive a flu shot for $26.

Participants can  use their screenings to fill out the online health risk assessment at www.ummedcvty.com. Those who complete the assessment between Oct. 23 and Nov. 30 will be entered into a prize drawing for iPod Nanos, pedometers and an ARC Trainer (similar to an elliptical machine). Last year 1,200 people attended the UMHC fair and 1,400 attended the MU fair. In anticipation of a greater turnout, Healthy for Life will be increasing its number of screening stations and has included new and exciting interactive exhibitors. Whether you come on your lunch break or during the day, bring your co-workers and your boss—remind them that healthy employees are happy and productive employees!
